  • July 21st ALR 136 will be the Host Chapter (Committee: Jerry Armstrong, Diana Nelson, Jerry and Connie Berry, Ron Vangas) Will have horseshoe tournament, burgers and brats, and a DJ (Gio suggested a dunk tank…will check into)

  • Went over changes in the new set of by-laws. Will e-mail out to members.
  • Doug ‘Greyeagle’ Lehman reminded members that it doesn’t do any good to complain about the by-laws and how they are administered. We need to accept them, abide by them, and move on.

Treasurers (Diana Nelson) Corner:

  • Treasurer read the financial report. Expense for avenue of flags for the cemetery in the amount of $67.66 should be to the Legion and not the Riders. Report accepted with correction.
  • Diana gave report for the Poker Run. $11,104.00 income with $1972.30 expenses giving us a net of $9131.70.

  • Need names of deployed troops for Operation Troop Care

  • Memorial Day activities: set little flags and crosses at the graves (5:30 PM Friday). Monday 5:30AM set out big flags. Ceremony at 11:00 AM. Remove flags, fold and store at 4:30PM
  • Building fund now at $49,200.00. Door to patio donated and installed (no cost). Beran’s concrete will install footings and slab at no cost to Post.
  • Building fundraiser auction scheduled for September. Need good quality items.

  • Fundraiser to be set up for Ruth Carpenter
  • Donations will be taken soon for another gun

  • Motion by Greg Bauer to donate $500.00 to RCIC Welding for the metal art that they donated and was auctioned off at the Poker Run, seconded by Ben Roloff. Motion passed. This will pay for 5 veterans to go through the welding school.
  • Suggested 10% of Poker Run net proceeds be donated to building fund. Chuck Barshney made motion to donate $5000.00. Seconded by Darrell Hacker. Motion passed.
  • Jerry Berry presented ALR 136 Life Membership criteria. Must be life member of Legion, SAL, or Auxiliary. Available 1 June 2012. Application form will be emailed to membership.
  • Scott Hansen will be selling American, POW and service flags at $10.00 each.
  • Greg Bauer thanked everyone that helped on the Poker Run. It was again a great success because of the effort put forth by the members. GREAT JOB.

  • Saturday, 21 April, meet at Mulvane Cemetery at 9:00 AM to set new flag pole bases. Need 18” auger and metal detector
  • Need 10 to 15 riders for Memorial Day service at the cemetery. Also need people for honor guard to hold flags and rifles.
  • New LED sign on top of Post sign out front should be up and running soon
  • Post is now wired for Wi-Fi

  • Briefed on the following events:
  • Department Convention 18 to 20 May in Great Bend
  • State ALR Romp 15 to 17 June in Hays.
  • Sunday, 29 April, pick up trash in ditches of Patriot Guard Highway

New Business/Discussion Items:

  • Deb Lynch wanted to acknowledge ALR136 members who attended the memorial for the Korean War veteran whose remains were recently returned
  • ALR is a program of the Legion. Therefore, when referring to the ALR, it is not the Post, but ALR Chapter 136.
  • Jarhead made motion to donate ALR portion of the 50/50 to the building fund until such time that the fund is no longer needed. Seconded by Sherry Evans. Motion passed.
  • Present Secretary, Terri Lehman, resigned her office. Nominations to fill the office until elections in January were opened to the membership. Rick Babinger nominated Connie Berry who accepted the nomination. There being no further nominations, the membership accepted the nomination by voice vote. Connie Berry was appointed to fill the position of Secretary until the next elections.
  • GIO suggested that since Scott Hanson will no longer be able to purchase flags for resale to members, that the ALR take over the responsibility. Jerry Kirk made a motion that the ALR purchase the flags and have a member administer the program. Seconded by Mary Green. Motion passed.

  • Nan Wise broke her foot while in Florida helping her mother-in-law move.

  • Mentioned that the Douglas nursing home has some veterans living there. Will have a ride in to visit sometime this spring
  • Operation Troop Care packages will be sent this month. Contact John with any info on deployed troops
  • Banana Run to VA Center will be next Sunday, March 18. Start at 1:30 PM

  • Vice Commander Rick Babinger gave update on the Post remodel project. Encouraged everyone to make a pledge. Building fund is at about $40,000.00.
  • Legion elections are in April. Need members to step up and lead.

  • SAL pledged $1000.00 to the building fund
  • Gun drawing was won by Greg Bauer. Ticket sales for next drawing starts now.

BOG representative & Poker Run Chair (Doug Lehman) Corner

  • Reminded everyone to support the new dining room. Dining room now open four days a week (Tues thru Fri)
  • Soliciting prize donations. Need quality items for Raffle and Auction (not garage sale type items)

  • Winfield Veterans home is out of popcorn. Pat Thacker made motion to match Post 10 donation of $107.00 to purchase six month supply of popcorn, oil, and sacks. Jerry Ward seconded. Motion carried. Will purchase items this week and notify of delivery date.
  • Need old motorcycle shirts for a quilt that will be made for the Poker Run Auction. Get to Terri Lehman.
  • Congratulated two members for getting OLD. Pat Thacker – 65, and Dwane Stewart – 66.
  • Greg Bauer donated the gun he won in the SAL drawing to the Poker Run auction.
  • Greg Bauer announced that the motorcycle safety course will be held March 31st from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Kansas Coliseum. Will send details by e-mail.

  • Addressed the changes to the Canteen and Dinning Room. The dinning room will reopen 01 March

with a new menu and name – “Patriot Restaurant”. Will be open more hours and days. Closed on Saturday and Monday. Welcomed new manager Amy Houston.

Fundraising Chairperson (Asonjia Stewart) Corner

  • Doug Lehman gave update on the 4th Annual Poker Run. Contact Doug to sign up for a committee.

Ron ‘Doc’ Herndon and Deb Lynch acquired a donation of a 14 ct/24 diamond tennis bracelet from

“Jewelry Savers” on Rock Road.

Patriot Guard (Terry Houck) corner

  • Discussed Road Guard meeting and another Safety class. Greg Bauer will set up a class in March or April
  • Encouraged more to step up and take class for Road Guard duty
  • Thanks to the efforts of Jerry Berry and Terry Houck, a Ride Captain checklist will be sent out to all members

  • Darkhorse lubed the ALR shed lock (?)
  • Russ Wallace suggested we participate in Arena events as a fund raiser. More info to follow.
  • Doug Lehman asked about putting a bowling night together just for fun. He also mentioned that the May poker run meetings will start in Feb.
  • Jerry Acknowledged Doug Lehman and Greg Bauer for being horseshoe tournament champions at this summers State ALR rally. The engraved plaque stays at 136 again for another year.
  • Opened up the floor for officer nominations. All unopposed positions went unchanged and were declared winners. Assistant Sgt at Arms ballot was cancelled. Darkhorse made a motion and was seconded by Little John to have Ditch leave the room and have a vote by show of hands. Ditch was declared the winner by show of hands.   • Advised that Art Beale’s birthday was Thursday and would be celebrated at Red Robin in Wichita. Discussion resulted in 13 December ride to Riverside Café moved to 20 December Meet at Red Robin before 6 PM on 15 December to surprise Art for his birthday.

Veteran’s Coordinator (Dennis Joynt) Corner

  • Last 136 Banana Run for the year was 4 December 2011
    • Mulvane High School Choir and Honor Society participated.
  • Kansas Veterans Home
  • Presented 2 popcorn machines in conjunction with Post 10 (Winfield) prior to the Wreaths across America ceremony.

Co-Director’s (Ron Vangas) Corner:

  • Read thank you from Steve and Kathy Blake.
  • Gave summary of popcorn machine presentation to Kansas Veterans Home.

Commander’s (Rick Babinger for Jake Defrees) Corner:

  • No Christmas dinner planned.
  • Dining Room closed for the rest of the year.
  • Remodel issue – Jerry Berry, Ron Vangas, and Buzz Nye to work on Casino donation request.

S.A.L Commander’s (Jerry Armstrong) Corner

  • SAL Christmas Party 18 December from 3 – 5 PM.

Ladies Auxiliary (Pat Johnston) Corner

  • 2012 Officer Elections.
    • Must be 2012 member to vote, Membership ID’s checked at the door.
    • Diana will be available for renewals prior to 8 January meeting.
    • Nominations for next year’s officers will be accepted under new business.
  • Thanked all who supported KVH/Wreaths Mission.
    • 24 members, 8 rode. 14 bikes total from all posts.
    • Due to all graves being covered with wreaths, the $500 Post 136 voted to donate remains in obligated monies for next year.
  • New challenge coins should be in by Wednesday, 14 December.
  • Operation Star Tree - $1133 spent on 25 stars.
    • Thanked Barb Giovanni, Connie Berry, Denny McDonough, Monica Barshney, Rick and Nancy Johnson for shopping.
  • Operation Holiday Surprise - Riders donated $600 & the Legion donated $500.
  • Welcome Home Monday, 12 December for Shawn Williams, who was wounded by an IED in Afghanistan.
  • The scholarship requirements remain unchanged from last year. Topic is “What have Veterans done for our Nation and how has it affected me personally.”
  • Summarized the Chapter Report to date.
    • 13832 hours, 146951 miles and $15,348.60 in donations, year to date.
  • Post 10 FYBO Poker Run is 14 January, 2012, starting in Winfield.
  • Mid Winter Forum is from 3 to 5 February, 2012. (see calendar for reservation info)

  • Next Year’s Post 136 Poker Run is scheduled for 12 May, 2012.

  • Warrior Transition Battalion Toys Donation request from Department. Terry Houck made a motion, seconded by John DeArmond, to donate $100. Motion Passed.
  • Terry Houck discussed the escort for the Quilts of Valor in Mid to Late March, 2012, to the Warriors Transition Battalion for the Quilt Presentation to the 4/4 Cavalry, who has a high casualty rate from the wars in Iraq/Afghanistan.
  • Director authorized $62.50 to pay for the next year’s web domain service.
  • John DeArmond questioned possibility of Lifetime ALR membership. No additional discussion at this time.
  • Post 10 Freeze Your Butt Off Poker Run is 14 January, 2012, starting in Winfield.
    • Kevin Conover discussed drawings for wooden statue and pistol during event.
  • Jerry Kirk questioned July 2012 meeting date. No confirmation at this time. Date may change based on new Directors call.
  • Discussion concerning new plans for building remodel as they relate to $5000 donation by ALR 136 to the Patio Fund. Russ Wallace, Legion Finance Officer will ensure money is designated for Patio construction only.
  • Flint McPeak requested an Airport Welcome Home for Mulvane Police Officer Friday’s son who is returning from Navy A School. Director to contact Flint to discuss.
