  • At July Legion meeting there will be discussion on going smokeless during and after the remodel. Voting will be at August meeting with no discussion.

  • Briefed on the appreciation ride to officer Lucas Powell’s residence after meeting
  • There will be a Patriot Guard mission in Kansas City for the funeral of KIA 2Lt Justin Sisson on Saturday June 15th. RC will be Doc Peterson.

Director’s (Ron Vangas) Corner:

  • ALR State Rally in Concordia on June 21 to 23rd
  • Cripple Creek Salute to Veterans Aug 16, 17, 18

New Business/Discussion Items:

  • Greg Bauer made a motion to donate $500.00 to the welding school in McPherson (they donated the metal art for our Poker Run auction). This will pay for 5 veterans to attend the school. Motion seconded by Andy Webb. Motion carried.
  • Deb Lynch made motion to donate $5000.00 to the building fund. Seconded by Viki Kalous. After discussion, Greg Bauer said he would match our donation. Motion carried.

Floor opened to membership:

  • Duane Kalous asked about Two Wheel Tuedays. Will look into for summer months. Had ride to restaurant in Winfield on Friday. Only 3 riders showed up. May try a couple of rides on weekends to see how they are attended.
  • Deb Lynch stated that Auxiliary dues for 2014 will start to be accepted in July
  • Flag retirement will be held on Flag Day June 14th
  • June 22nd Karokee will be at the Post
  • Doug Lehman stated that 3 members going to the State ALR Rally was really a poor showing. He made a motion to donate $100.00 to the Concordia ALR to help with their expenses. Seconded by Greg Bauer. After discussion motion carried.

  • Accidental death benefits for Legion members is free. Need to sign up.

  • May 14th. The KCVA mobile vehicle will be here from 11:00 AM to 6 PM for VA issues

  • Rick Babinger needs volunteers on May 18th at cemetery, 10:00 AM, to open up holes for flag poles. Bring metal detector and shovel if you have one. May 24th meet at cemetery at 5:00 PM to decorate veterans graves. Meet at Post at 5:00 AM to go out to Cemetery to put out flags. Get with Steve ‘Red’ Coberley (redneckbiker@pixius.net) if you want to be on the rifle squad.
  • Viki Kalous wants everyone to come to Karoke night. It’s a real blast.
  • Rick Babinger reported that we have $75,000.00 in the building fund. It is stagnated with no more commitments from the membership.

  • Gave the Esprit De Corps, Mulvane High School, a certificate on 5 April for their participation in the Christmas Banana Run
  • Did a ride in to the Mulvane Grade School on 12 April. Presented the 4th Grade students with little flags. Presented school with certificate and “We Support our Troops” flag for the Veterans Day cards and the message on the fence.
  • Sunday April 21st we will pick up Patriot Guard Highway
  • Wed April 24th Honor Flight departs at 6:25 AM and returns Fri the 26th at 4:45 PM

  • Jerry Berry gave update on Poker Run. We still need prizes. We will need volunteers to man doors to bar. According to variance from ABC, no alcohol will be allowed outside the bar area.

Floor opened to membership:

  • Rick Babinger needs volunteers for Memorial day services. Susan Lee volunteered to be in uniform for the Soldiers Cross ceremony. Request for 15 riders will be sent out at a later date.
  • Deb Lynch reported on the needs of Veterans in the classroom at WSU. Professors went through sensitivity training in dealing with the Veterans
  • Steve Huckaby is having a Karoke night at Post on Friday, 19 April at 8:00 PM

    1. Three scholarship applications received, disqualified one for lack of information (Later found out the information was sent to wrong address. Received it and will reinstate) Announcement will be at the April meeting
    2. Now that weather is improving, will plan some dinner rides. Maybe every other weekend and mix up between Saturdays and Sundays. A few possibilities: El Maguey-Winfield, Stearman Restaurant-Benton, Dinks BBQ-Bartlesville, Ol Stuga-Lindsborg
    3. Mulvane grade school sent over some Veteran Day cards that were made by the 4th grade. Will see if a ride to the school is possible so that we can thank the students personally. Will take the cards to VA during Banana Run.
    4. Clean-up of Patriot Guard Hwy will be April 21st

New Business/Discussion Items:

    1. Scolarship entries are due March 1st. Info can be found at: alr136.com
    2. Mark McKenna sent an e-mail stating he no longer will ride and sold his motorcycles. Indicated that he would like to remain a member. Per our by-laws, a vote from membership was taken and retention of his membership did not pass.
    3. Two Wheel Tuesdays is suspended. Will continue with once or twice a month during riding season. We will schedule a ride on either a Saturday or Sunday periodically within a 100 mile radius of Wichita. Also, we will plan one or two weekend trips somewhere. If anyone has any suggestions on rides, please let me know.

Floor opened to membership:

  • Buz Nye said Board of Governors decided to close down the kitchen
  • Some people are getting together on Sundays for breakfast at the Post. Some people bring items and volunteers help set up and clean up. Donations welcome.
  • I suggested having a Pizza and a movie night some Friday evening.
  • Sherry Evans is trying to get donations for Girl Scout cookies to send to troops. Doug Lehman made a motion to purchase 100 boxes to send to the troops on our own list, seconded by Papa-J Ward. Motion carried. John Metz will get with Sherry and get the cookies ordered.
  • Motion made by Kevin Conover and seconded by Papa-J Ward to donate all future 50/50 proceeds to the Legion general fund until such time that the Legion is in good shape again financially. At that time the funds will then revert back to the building fund. Motion passed 35 to 19.
  • There is an effort by local builders to build a home for disabled Marine Sgt James Amos in Mt Hope through the National Homes for our Troops organization.
  • Local Vype magazine has an article about Wichita Heights girls basketball and their coach Kip Puliam who is the Grandson of our honorary member Betty Jean Pulliam. In one of the pictures Betty is seen sitting behind coach.

  • Reported that we participated in 5 Patriot Guard missions this year and that a total of 8 Kansas soldiers will were killed

  • Received 10 stars from McConnell. Committee formed to buy the toys: Ed Watson, Nancy Johnson,Monica Barshney, Lori Metz, and Deb Lynch.
  • Rick Johnson made a motion to donate $500.00 to the McConnell Spouses Club for Operation Holiday Surprise. Second by Andy Webb. Motion carried.
  • Nominations for 2013 ALR 136 Officers:
