Veteran’s Coordinator (Dennis Joynt) Corner
  • Next ALR 136 Banana Run is 7 August, 2011.
  • Shipped 1 Operation Troop Care package, Need supplies for packages. Contact Dennis for specific items.
  • Briefed on Homeless Veterans dual funeral 21 March.
  • Advised on American Legion Legacy Run 21 – 25 August, 2011.
o         Discussed scholarship amounts and funds collected.
Commander’s (Art Beale) Corner:
  • Advised 5th District Convention 29 – 31 April.
  • Announced Legion officers elected at April meeting.
Co-Director’s (Ron Vangas) Corner:
  • Read thank you card from Soldier and Family Assistance Center for $100 Donation.
Fundraising Chairperson (Asonjia Stewart) Corner
  • Pancake and Sausage Feed 19 March netted $400.
  • Upcoming Poker Run 7 May, meeting immediately after ALR meeting.
Ladies Auxiliary (Pat Johnston) Corner
  • Barb Giovanni -Announced Officers elected at April meeting.
S.A.L Commander’s (Jerry Armstrong) Corner
  • Advised the SAL drawing for a shotgun will be limited to 150 tickets at $10 each, available in the next 2 weeks.
Director’s (Jerry Berry) Corner
  • Back Patch Replacement Program – Replace incorrect Patches shipped by National at no charge by trade in only. To be completed by July 1. See Director for details.
  • Currently experiencing issues emailing Hotmail accounts. Make sure your security settings are not blocking Director Emails.
  • Reminded of Swap meet at Post 406 (Andover) 23 April from 8 – 6. Requested volunteers to assist in manning the table.
  • Placing additional Pyro and Koot memory bar orders. Email if interested.
Guest Speaker:
  • Area Director Sam “Dustoff” Langhofer advised appreciation for ALR 136. Indicated we are a model/example post. Big thank you for what we do, and how we do it. Advised to support Legion Posts, we are Legion (SAL, AUX) first!

  • Motion by Rick Babinger, seconded by Rick Johnson, to order a paver as written.
  • Previous discussion to donate 10% of fundraising net proceeds to Canteen
  • No quarterly report so issue tabled until report received.
New Business/Discussion Items:
  • The Director suggested offering a Bible Stick option to deploying soldiers instead of coin.
    • Discussion resulted in no action.
  • Doug Lehman advised that the artwork, similar to that presented to Jerry Armstrong on behalf of the membership, is available to purchase. Will email ordering information.
  • Director advised Keller Williams is hosting 2nd annual Red Day Veterans Appreciation Day at Robert Dole VARMC 14 May. NOTE: This item will not appear on the weekly calendar due to Department activities that weekend. Details to follow in email.
    • Contact Sherry Evans for donation details.
    • Event scheduled from 0900 to 1500.
    • ALR to open event with flagged up ride in. Staging details to follow.
    • Director advised of 10th Anniversary Celebration of the establishment of the Kansas Chapter of the American Legion Riders, 18 June.
      • Simultaneous events at 408 (Derby) and 136 (Mulvane)
      • One way Poker Run from 136 (Mulvane) to 268 (Sedgwick)
      • Additional details in separate email.
  • John Wilson advised that the Memorial Park will sponsor a free music event with speakers (AGSM Anita Dixon and Cregg “Bronco” Hansen) on the first Saturday of River festival, 4 June.
  • Jerry Allen advised the POW/MIA flag was tattered and needed replaced.
    • ALR provides flag – In the ALR shed.
  • Dennis McDonough made a motion, seconded by CMSGT Simmons, to donate $1000 to the Legacy fund.
    • Discussion – More info on disbursement of funds required.
    • Committee formed to research disbursement of funds and make recommendations.
      • Committee members: Doug Lehman, Jerry Allen, Terry Houck, Pat Stanley and Rich Hula.
    • Dennis rescinded motion until next meeting.
  • Director advised to push ring drawing ticket sales. Turn tickets and money into Barb Giovanni as it is received.
