Commander Rick Babinger addressed issues concerning members leaving because of no-smoking in dining room. Also spoke about importance of having all of your membership dues paid before Jan. 1st

Greg “Bull” Thompson thanked everyone who helped him in preparing and serving all the great smoked meats that he and his friend Matt prepared for our Toys for Tots Party!

DarkHorse spoke about Xmas V.A. Banana Run this coming Sunday Dec.!6th. We will be meeting at our Post, have breakfast and start filling goody bags at 10:30. Please bring sugar-free cookies, sugar-free candy. Bull Thompson will be Santa, Charlie Lies who plays bagpipes will be there and DarkHorse has lined up a singing group to perform for all the Vets. This V.A. Run has a lot more great items in our goody bags for everyone to pass out so Please join us in bringing cheer to all of the Vets that can’t be home for Christmas. These guys especially like to see all of our ladies pass out bags to them, you can see that extra sparkle in the Vets eyes when a good-looking ALR gal comes into their room, I guess they get tired of seeing us Hairy-Legged guys!

PG Bricks are still on order. Terry is doing his best to get these in asap. Greg Bauer said he would call brick company and look into it also.

Rolling Thunder Carry the Flame. Both DarkHorse and Wild Bill spoke about this coming event. Flagstaff, Arizona. To the Wall in D.C. with many stops in between. Anyone interested should see Terry Houck or Bill Logen at January meeting.

Motion made to repay Legion $100.00 for insurance on our shed that sits on Post property.

ALR Presentation Cases: Jerry “Sawblade” Armstrong dropped off the first of three cases this past Sat. You all need to come down and go into backroom and see the craftsmanship that has gone into this piece. You all will be amazed. This will fine home for all of our memorabilia to be viewed by those who visit our Post. Thank You Jerry!

2007 Officers Stepping Down: Doug Lehman my co-director who kept me current on all e-mail address and was more than a co-director because he always gives 100% covered missions, made calls took care of things when I was not around You will be missed.

Monica Barshney who I affectionately call SISTER MARY TORTURE has been the Rock of our organization who we have all gone to for answers at one time or another. We will miss you sitting up front speaking softly to the members about important issues. But now go and sit with the members and have some beer!

Post 136 am. Legion Jackets are now on sale for 32.00. If you would like to personalize it the cost is 5.00 more. Also Legion blankets are also on sale for twenty dollars. These items can be ordered at the bar. Money will be collected at time that order is placed.

December 15th Gypsy M/C new Hangout 1421 E. Grand Haysville, Ks this coming Sat. Nite 7pm till??? 10.00 per person Free keg and food till gone. The Gypsy M/C has been supporting our Post at Toys for Tots and at Friday nite and Sunday meals. Please try to go and support them at their new clubhouse!

Dec.16th V.A. Xmas Banana Meet at Post for breakfast and then start to pack bags at 10:30am. We will be leaving the Post at 12 noon to be at V.A. at 12:30pm

New Years Eve Party at the Post. Cost 10.00 per person includes killer smoked meat dinner and Post DJ’s, fireworks and breakfast. Starts at 7pm.

ALR-136 Newsletter - November 2007

New Members : Jo Knowles, John Floyd, Patricia Roloff, Kim Heatwole, Mathew Benson, Carol Benson. Welcome all to ALR Post 136.

Donation: Made to Newton ALR for $100. 00 to buy blankets for Vets out in Dodge City at Soldiers Home.

Toys For Tots: We raised $8,226.00 and collected 761 toys for The Marine Corp and all the needy children. This is the biggest check that the Marines have been given in the Wichita area. Outstanding job done by all who worked to make this project a big success!

Commander’s Corner: Commander reminded everyone to pay Legion, Aux. and S.A.L. dues before you can renew your ALR membership. This comes from National now that we are part of the program. Cards will be checked at next meeting before you get in to renew ALR card and vote. Post Thanksgiving will be on Nov 19th Monday night at 6PM. The Post officers will be cooking turkey and ham and we are to bring a dish and celebrate, relax and give thanks for what we have.

B.O.G has 2 positions open if interested see Post Commander Rick Babinger.

New Years Eve Party: Ladies Aux. Has purchased smoked meat dinner for this years celebration. Cost will be $10.00 per person. More info to come.

New Years Eve Fireworks: ALR donated $300.00 for fireworks to bring in the New Year. ALR member Pyro will be in charge of our show!

Wild Bill and Janet will be having a pizza and beer party Dec. 8th at the Post to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. All 136 ALR members are invited!

Mike Shock told members that the Traveling Wall exhibit will be coming to Eldorado this summer . The funds needed to bring this memorial to the ALL Veterans Reunion have been raised. We will be going over to help them put up the wall when it gets here. Kansas ALR members set this same Wall up out in Colorado at POW-MIA convention in a record time of one and a half hours. We WILL break that record this summer!

VA XMAS: Will be either Dec 15th or 16th Darkhorse is checking with VA. We donated $1,000.00 to the Xmas fund so we will be buying blankets, coupon books and ALR members please bring sugar-free cookies and candies for the Vets.

State ALR Director Cregg Hansen spoke about new ALR chapters and the ALR becoming a national program.

POW-MIA in Winter Park: Info should be out this month on next years convention in Winter Park. When it comes pick up the phone and make your reservations quick. We plan on taking the whole lodge!

DarkHorse Thanked all the Veterans at our meeting for their sacrifice. Also the Ladies AUX. and S.A.L. for the sacrifices they made too.

COATS FOR VETS. Please look in your closet for a warm coat that might keep a homeless vet warm this winter. Bring it to the next meeting and we will see that it gets to the right people to be handed out.

MacPherson Toy Run Sat. Nov 24th We will meet at Q-Trip at 71st and K-15 at 9:30am and AIS at 10am. This is the 20th year for this Toy Run, please try to make this one for Mama Keena and Sheriff Al. They have always supported our worthy causes. Chili and an auction at the Legion Post in Mac town will follow.

ALR-136 Newsletter - October 2007

New Members: W.C. Thurman, Ben Roloff. Welcome to ALR 136 your membership will never be taken for granted.

Mke Shock Thanked all the members for their support on the loss of Rita’s mother.

ALR SHED $1,500.00 budget has been spent on our new shed. More money is needed to finish. Motion to spend up to $500.00 was passed. Patriot Guard will give $750.00 towards this shed. Also Gene Hammitt and Wild bill each gave $100.00 towards shed project. Thanks to you both.

BackPatches: New design patches will be ordered when 5-6 sets of old ones are sold. Patriot Guard will take bottom patches and put on back of Road Guard vests.

Commanders Homecoming: 5th Dist Commander John Thomas, Pat Culver, And Stretch Strothman will be in attendance at this homecoming dinner this Sat. nite Oct 20th. Mike Shock will do POW-MIA ceremony. It all starts at 6pm. Call Nancy Johnson at 777-0700 for RSVP.

Halloween Party Post party will be Oct. 26th. We will be having our fabulous DJ’s entertain us while we dance the nite away in costume. Party starts at 7pm.

Oct. 21st We are having a tear down party. We will be pulling down suspended ceiling and all tiles in back dining room. Will start around 12:30pm. Please come down and help, the more people we have the less time it takes!

Board of Governors Two positions are open. Contact Post Commander if interested.

Guest: David Evans spoke about bringing The Moving Wall to Eldorado next year for Veterans Reunion. PG will donate $500.00 and ALR will donate $500.00.

Wild Bill Logan’s family is having a get-together at their house for a small group of people to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. On Dec 8th they will have Pizza and beer for all of us down at our Post to celebrate this occasion.

Toys for Tots Meeting This Wed at the Post at 7pm.

TOYS fOR TOTS PARTY Nov. 3rd. We will be having the PreToy Run part at our Post ALL DAY and INTO THE NITE!!!! Food FUN MUSIC and DANCING. Come on down and be a part of the fun. We are also looking for people to give us a hand with this project.

Andover Jr. High Doug Baber ALR 136 member is inviting us to stop by on Nov. 8th to meet the kids and let them talk to Veterans and check out the motorcycles .He would like to have people show up at 8:30am. More info will be sent on this.

Oaklawn Bomber Burger has made commitment to donate to the VA Xmas project.

Homecomings: This Friday our own member Tom Leahy will be having two of his sons coming back from Iraq. We will be going to the VFW in Derby to have a meal and then celebrate their return. We will meet there at 6:30pm. Also Ralph who plays music at VFW in Derby has a grandson who is coming home . So it will be a great nite to celebrate these fine gentlemen’s return!

P/Guard Terry Houck received an award from Natl. Patriot Guard. He thanked our membership and said award belonged to his wife Carol. He also spoke about all missions we had done and how everyone always does his or her part to make the missions a success. From the people who carry the flags to church to the people who hold on to those flags in line for long periods of time.

Doc Herndon Our ALR Chaplain presented Our Post with a beautiful hand made quilt with pictures from PG missions and a picture of DarkHorse, also a painting of The Wall and Reflection of two bikers from the past and present. These were purchased at McPherson ALR Auction this past Sat. Nite. Thanks Doc!

American Legion Children’s Home Stretch asked to pass the hat for money for presents for the kids down in Okla. Motion was made to give 200.00 Motion carried.

Bill Baber ALR 136 Charter Member is staying at Copperstone in Derby, room 107 stop in and see him when you can. They don’t make “em” like Billy anymore.

New Hats: Bronco got the ok to order hats from Yates Center. He will have them to sell at the next meeting. First come, first serve! $15.00 ea.

McConnell Kids day Oct 20th Meet at main gate at 11:30 . Leroy Perkins will be RC. We ware looking for 20-30 riders to stage a welcome home for bus load of kids who have parents that have gone overseas and come back. So these kids can see what we do when we welcome home their parents. Contact Leroy at Leroy.perkins@mcconnell.af.mil

Bricks are in: Terry said they have bricks in to be placed. Some of the orders where printed wrong so have to be redone. Terry is working hard to get everything correct.

Wichita Toy Run NOV 4th We will meet at the Post at 8am. Make sure to eat before coming. Do not know if dining room will be open yet. AIS for Wichita will be 10am

Road Cones were donated by ALR 136 member John DeArmond to P/Guard for blocking off road or parking stops. Thanks John!

Hotdogs ALR member Tony Wilson Donated 30lbs of dogs to Am. Legion Children’s home in our name last weekend and the another 20lbs to be used up front in our bar. Thanks Tony!

ALR-136 Newsletter - September 2007

Donations: 500.00 to KPG from Old Settlers Day group. Bill Padgett donated 50.00 toKPG for patches. Wild Bill Logan received a 500.00 check from a friend to donate to KPG.

Post Commander Rick Babinger spoke about the Legion meeting this coming Monday the 10th of Sept. It will start at 7pm and will have many Important things to vote on. Please attend and use your vote to make a change!

Display Cases: Are in the works, Sawblade said he should have them done by end of Oct. and ALR voted to set aside 1000.00 for tempered glass to be used in these cases.

ALR State Rally in Ozwakie: 10 to 15 riders from our Post will be attending this Rally on the 15th of this month. We will be staging at the QTrip at 71st & K-15 Sat morn. The 15th at 6am and AIS at 6:15 am.

Dennis Scuffham and all riders who attended the Old Settlers Day parade and trophy presentation were thanked by Mike Shock and all members present at meeting for their participation.

Rick Johnson is still our Post historian but due to job travel he will need all of our help with pictures for this years scrapbook. Any pic’s that you take please e-mail to Rick. I will get his e-mail add. Out when I get it from the Commander.

R.A.G.S.: DarkHorse paid tribute to RAGS group for handling funeral missions for WWII, Korea and Vietnam Vets who have passed away. The RAGS are SEMPER PARATUS meaning always ready. This was the motto of and Infantry division in WW!. They had a mascot a cairn terrier named RAGs. He was a famous war dog who delivered messages crucial during the Argonne Campaign. Keep up the great work. Also 4 RAGS stepped up to be Rifle Squad for funeral this Monday in Derby.

Duane Clough “ Dewey” his father passed away . Please keep Dewey and family in your thoughts and prayers.

American Legion Legacy Fund: Alr from all across the USA raised 400,000 for the Fund this year!

Rick Babinger’s son was named Squad leader of the Year in Iraq.

DarkHorse asked for additional volunteers for Road Guard duty at funeral missions. Anyone interested should contact Terry Houck at next meeting.

    9-23 ALR 2 Newton is going to Children’s Home in Ponca City for picnic and to give rides to kids. Stretch says bring extra helmet if you will be giving rides, also bring food to eat at the picnic. He will meet riders at QT at 47th and S. Hydraulic at 9am and leave at 9:30am, will take turnpike to Blackwell, Okla.

Kansas Patriot Guard purchased 140 flags to be distributed to Post’s in Kansas so they will have proper flags for funeral missions and other ALR function.

Rebel Jim Stevens donated 100 ton of ground up asphalt to help with our parking lot holes. Greg Bauer will get dump truck and Chuck Barshney will drive truck.

Greg E-Bay Hansen will be presented with a certificate of appreciation from our Post for all of his work and dedication. Bronco-6 to entire membership” Please keep E-Bay and Georgianna in your prayers.

ALR SHED PROJECT: Papa will need work detail on this the first weekend of Oct. Plan on spending Sat & SUN to finish this 16X16 shed. Bring Hammers.

Car Show in Peck, Ks. This past Sat Alr Post 136 was a sponsor for this Car and Bike show. With the busy schedule this weekend I want to thank all of those Riders who represented us at this show. Our own Bob Kierzak to 4th in Bike competition.

Terri Lehman “ SHIRT BABE “ was recognized by Chuck Barshney for raising 3000.00 from t-shirt sales. SALUUUUUUUUUUUUUTE!!

9-30 VA BANANA RUN meet at Post for great breakfast then load bags with goodies for Vets . then AIS at 12:30 pm on to VA hospital and pass out bags and visit with the Vets. If you have not joined us for this mission yet you are missing a whole bunch of people ! Please bring sugar-free cookies and candy for bags.

American LEGION BOWLING TOURNEY: Looking for teams for tourney in McPherson. Doug Lehman will get me the Schedule and I will pass on to you.

ALR-136 Newsletter - August 2007

Post 5 District Commander John Thomas thanked the 136 ALR for their continued support of the American Legion. Brock Hayes presented ALR 136 with check for 500.00 from a fund raiser that he sponsored in Old Town, John Simard presented Vickie Jones and Chuck Barshney with certificates of appreciation for their support of Post 410.

PG Missions Co-Director Doug Lehman spoke about no drinking of alcohol while on Patriot Guard Missions. This includes staging area. End of discussion.

Old Settlers Weekend Post will need lots of help to get prepared for weekend see Post newletter for particulars. Dennis Scuff ham will be in charge of ALR Group for Old Settlers. They will be presenting us with an award this Friday nite the 17th at 6:30pm at the bandstand just east of downtown. Then on Sat meet at the Post at 10am to stage for the parade to honor Patriot Guard.

Post Commander Rick Babinger thanked everyone for all their cards and letters this past week. All ticket packets that were sent to you need to be turn in. This is the only big fundraiser the Post does for the year so fill out those tickets and send the money to the Post. Dues need to be paid as soon as you can, this year you will not be able to renew ALR dues without a current Legion, AUX., S.A.L. membership.

Motions: To purchase 10 Purple Heart dog tags to present to wounded troops on Welcome Home rides.

Quilts of Valor Sponsor another quilt for a wounded soldier.

Greensburg Ks. Donation to purchase tree for community.

ALR Member Dave Wells Donation of 100.00 to help with illness in family. Hat was also passed around Chuck Barshney started it with his 100.00 donation . In all we collected 627.00 for the family. Outstanding!

Cregg Hansen ALR State Director spoke to members about the back patch situation and how it affects all of us. It was the recomdation of the State ALR Director and all Area ALR Directors that the bottom patch be removed from vest. ALR 136 voted to abide by the recommendation of the Director.

Mindy Saindon made history over in Iraq. She and another young lady trooper were the first two women to fly solo chopper mission over enemy territory.

Mike Saindon donated 50.00 to ALR and 50.00 to PG on behalf of Sawblade for making his flag presentation case for flag his daughter Mindy flew over in Iraq.

Terry Houck and Leon Roberts presented Wild Bill Logan with a Purple Heart Derby Cover for his motorcycles. Bill thanked members and said he was at a loss for words.

Cregg Hansen and Steve McDonald received the Make a Difference award from B-98 FM.

Toys For Tots Meeting Sunday Breakfast Sept 5th.at Post 136!

Mike Shock thanked everyone who helped make Vets Reunion a success.

Charlie Hon brought up Car Show in Peck Ks on Sept 8th we will be sponsor and have ALR 136 put on t-shirts.

Shirt Babe Miss Terri Lehman will be taking new order after Winter Park. ALSO SPOKE ABOUT HELPING HOMELESS Vets on Sept 21 with program that feeds, counsels and gives clothing to Homeless vets on that day. If you want info let Miss Terri know.

ALR-136 Newsletter - July 2007

Thank You Cards: Cards were read from Old Soldier’s Home in Dodge, Mulvane girls who went to Europe, Brock Hayes who set up PG benefit, And Bronco for Eric Palmer mission.

DarkHorse is now in charge of ordering new bricks for memorial out front of Post. See him or Doc, Jarhead if you have any Questions.

DarkHorse thanked everyone for showing up for the Eric Palmer funeral. It was one of the largest showing of bikes yet with 350 bikes. Outstanding! Also thanks to JarHead for helping Terry that day as did all the asst. RC’S and Road Guards.

SpongeBob was the RC for the 4th of July trip to Lawernce Dumont Stadium and then down to America’s Pub then back to Larry Dumont Stadium for Recognition by the news media and fireworks display. Great job Gary Schultz!

New Slacker: Charlie (Boomer) Hon is now retired and getting ready to enjoy the good life. Congrats to you Charlie!

  • National Pow-Mia Run is coming up soon. Aug. 17,18,19. Hope we have a bunch of Riders going again this year; our new destination will be Winter Park.

ALR-136 Newsletter - June 2007

Guest: Katie Vickers from Quilts of Valor came by and showed us all the quilts that our ALR unit sponsored for the group to make and send to a wounded soldier.

Wild Bill Logan spoke to us about finally winning his fight for recognition for his service in Vietnam. Congrats to you Sir!

Post Commander Message: Thanks to all who helped with Memorial Day services. Flag day will be celebrated this Thurs at Post at 7pm. Please attend. A new roof will be put on our Post along with new AC system. Mud volleyball will be held July 21st. Please come out and support the post!

Winter Park POW-MIA RIDE: Cregg Hansen asked for volunteers to guard the Moving Wall all day and nite Thursday while we are out in Winter Park. Anyone who is going out to Winter Park who would like to help out should contact Cregg Hansen ASAP 788-4207 or cphans@sbcglobal.net

July 21 Vietnam Parade in Eldorado: Looking for around 40 bikes to be in parade. Some will fly Color Guard and 29 will fly POW-MIA flags with the names of our Kansas MIA on their bikes. If you don’t have POW-MIA one will be supplied. Please contact Cregg Hansen again on this.

Marine Toys for Tots: ALR 136 voted to have party on Nov. 3rd to raise money for this program. KFDI will be broadcasting and there will be a band that nite. Meat is being provided and Greg Thompson has donated his KILLER cooking skills to prepare the meat. We voted to put a cap of $500.00 for plates, utensils and coleslaw and salad for this event. All money from food will be donated to Marine program.

June 30th Fireworks Discount: Jim (PYRO) Daily will be at fireworks stand at 71st south and K-15 at 1pm to offer any ALR member a discount on fireworks. Wear your vest!

ALR National Convention: Steve MacDaddy McDonald will be RC for the trip to Tenn. They will be leaving on July 3rd from the QTrip at 71st and K-15 at 7am. Hope you all have a great time!

RETIRED General Ed McIlhenny: Darkhorse read a Thank You card from the General saying how much he and sweetheart appreciated his ALR group riding in with Flags flying and attending his retirement ceremony.

Gold Star Mothers Convention: Darkhorse will be putting together an Avenue of flags for June 26th at Veterans Park in Wichita. We will be staging at 5pm. More to come on this shortly, we need maximum turnout on this!

Deerslayer: Jarhead thanked everyone for all the kind thoughts and deeds while he is recovering. He is moving around better, but I think he has to cut the weak ones out of the herd right now until he gets his strength back. HAAAA!

June 16th Busy Day: Welcome home for Heath Bonnell relative of our own Diamond Don Stewart. We will meet at Post 136 at 1:15 AIS 1:45 TO RIDE TO Udall city park do flag presentation then AIS for Eldorado for Butch and Deb Ohmart Wedding. The ceremony will begin at 4pm so we will have to hit the street ASAP!

JUNE 17th FATHERS Day; Most all of us out there are Fathers, we voted at the meeting to do our V.A. Banana run on this day to share it with some of the fathers in our V.A. Hospital. Come down to the Post and have breakfast. Then we will pack bags and head to V.A. at 12:30. Please bring sugar free cookies and candy. Thank you Gentlemen for sharing this day.

Jerry Armstrong showed us all the beautiful Flag Presentation case with matching document frame that we will be hanging on our back wall when it is completed.

Kansas Patriot Guard received Organization of the Year award from Mid-Kansas Community Action-People helping people. All that we do to help our Veterans and the community shows people that we truly care.

New Canteen Mgr: Our new canteen manager is Seth Decker. He brings a great deal of experience in restaurant operation and management. Please take time to welcome Seth when you see him at the Post.

Run for the Wall: Folks up in Salina need donations to help with food when Riders pull into Salina. Motion was made to donate $50.00 to send to help with food costs.

Challenge Coins: Cregg Hansen will be ordering coins this week. Post 136 has ordered 300.

ALR NEW SHED: Membership voted to spend $1500.00 for a storage shed to be used for store ALR and Patriot Guard flags.

Message from Post Commander: May 12th next Saturday help will be needed at Mulvane cemetery to locate flag pole holes, clean out grass and re-mark for Memorial Day Ceremonies. He is asking people to meet at cemetery at 9:00am. The more people that show up the shorter the work detail will last. Only 4 people showed up last year so please come out and give us a hand. Also people will be needed for Rifle Squad and Flag Bearer Detail. See Rick Babinger to volunteer.

TAG: Legion member and Army Natl. Guardsman Tom Buskirk spoke to us about a project that was assigned to him by The Adjutant General of Kansas Gen. Bunting. He really likes the ALR and wants to put on an ALR Appreciation Day. We will be putting a program together for a date sometime in Sept. More to come at later Date.

    June 2nd Beaumont Water Festival Our State Chairman Cregg Hansen has been asked to speak again this year and Legion Post 180 will be providing the Color Guard. We will stage at QT at K-15 and 71stin Derby at 8:00am and AIS at 8:15. It is a great ride over to Beaumont and always a good time.
    July 14-15 McConnell Air show. Anyone planning to attend this event must have info to Bill Foster by July 2nd. If you gave info for Gen. McIlhenny sendoff you are covered.Also need to know which day you will attend and if you will be parking on static line display. Static line parking is committing to being there all day from 10:00-5pm. If not you will park off base after fly-by down main runway and shuttled back on to the base,but you can leave anytime you want. ALR-136 Newsletter - April 2007

New Members: Inge Wood, Gayle Hablitzel, Dennis McDonoug. Welcome to ALR 136 your membership will never be taken for granted.

Donations: $100.00 to ALR from Steve Towns, $100.00 to ALR from Clara Shockley Special Guest: Betty Jean Pulliam, President of Natl. Gold Star Mothers spoke to riders about 25 year memorial to Vietnam Wall. Their group will be having national convention for all Gold Star Mothers in Wichita in June. We will be asked to provide Color Guard for them when they get here, more on that at future date. ALR took out $100.00 full page ad in convention booklet; PGR also took out full page ad. Greg Bauer gave Betty $100.00 for full page memorial to her son who died in Vietnam. Doc Herndon also gave Betty $100.00 for her booklet, and Farrell Belt gave Betty $20.00 to cover picture cost of her son in booklet. Papa Barshney passed the hat and another $187.00 was given to Betty for the cause. Outstanding Riders!

BIG THANKS: Ron Brengman for all donations he picked up, Terri Lehman for taking on all food and party décor planning and execution. Also to everyone who worked in kitchen and out front with Auction. This year we made $1400.00 over last year. Great effort.

MS WALK: We have 12 members for this event. It will be held April 14th. ALR donated $100.00 to this cause.

Patches & Rockers: Doug Lehman read committee report which stated no by-laws would change and only ALR members would be allowed to wear Patches or Rockers. Voted on and passed.

Post Commander Rick Babinger reminded all Legionnaires that Post elections are to be held April 3ed at General meeting. Also April 14th Post 136 is having our annual Rib feed. If you haven’t been-You ain’t been anywhere. Killer Chow!

ALR VETS ASSISTANCE FUND: Your fund was used last week to assist wife of wounded soldier who lives in Derby. With the OK from 3 Board members we gave her $250.00 and phone cards. $2000.00 was added to fund by majority vote.

Roy Mansch Memorial: Charlie Honn informed us that his relative that passed away asked that money collected from his memorial be sent to ALR. Thanks Roy you will always ride with us where ever our journey takes us!

American Legion Legacy Fund ALR earmarked $1000.00 for this year donation.

V.A. Van Post 136 Ladies Aux requested help to purchase van to pick up Wichita Vets who are handicapped. ALR has set aside $1000.00 towards this project.

Post Building Fund: Alr has donated $700.00 from our auction.

Canteen: Alice Foster asked Riders if we would purchase Hot Dog Steamer for bar area. Members voted to buy new machine.

Fire: Caused major loss to Post 400. Chaplain Herb Seel $100.00 donation will be sent.

Thank You: Becky Hansen for taking over Hospitality duty for our Riders.

Ladies Aux. Fundraiser: This Friday at dinner and again at Sunday breakfast. Baked goods and crafts will be on sale to help our Aux. ladies with their projects. Please support the cause!

Bricks: Ruben and Diane Gonzales have passed our Brick detail over to Terry Houck and a crew of volunteers. Rueben and Diane have both had surgery this past winter and have been on the mend . We thank them both for all their hard work on this project and look forward to seeing them ride with us all real soon.

Patriot Guard: Terry Houck spoke about proper placement of Patriot Guard patch, it was voted to continue to wear patch on upper right side of vest above name patch.

400,000 Americans suffer from Multiple Sclerosis: one of our own (Becky Hansen) wife of Bronco 6 has this disease. Last year the Kansas ALR raised over $1600 to help fight MS through donations for the annual MS Walk. 5th District Chili Challenge held Feb 10th at ALR 4: ALR 136 won 1st place in the Chili Cook Off and 1st place for the display ! “ Thanks to (Doc) Herndon’s Chili and team members: (Rev) Jones, Greg Bauer and (Grey Eagle) Lehman and all the 136 members that participated.

Good of the order: Vickie Jones and Doc Herndon spend mucho bucks each week in the machine at Post 136 obtaining stuffed animals that are donated weekly to the Kansas Human Society on be-half of ALR 136. “ Thanks “, we know the puppies enjoy our contributions.

*March 3rd (Sat) LTC Mike (Dogboy) Hall retirement Ceremony , Dogboy, Rachel and Chris will be returning to their Home State of Virginia, Dogboy will be teaching ROTC , where he will have the opportunity to help shape the minds of our future Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines. ALR-136 Newsletter - January 2007

3 New Kansas ALR Chapters: Kansas ALR has added ALR 106 (Larned) , ALR 401 (Wichita) , ALR 366 (Hillsboro) to our growing family of Kansas ALR Chapters. There are currently 39 Chapters in Kansas serving the American Veteran and supporting the largest Veterans Organization in the world , the American Legion. These Chapters are excited to be apart of the growing Kansas ALR and look forward to participating in our Mission and Purpose.

For his selfless service to his Country, American Legion Riders, Patriot Guard and the Community in which he lives: decorated Vietnam Vet Terry (Darkhorse) Houck was presented by the ALR 136 membership (through personal donations) a “ Purple Heart “ Derby Cover for his Iron Horse. One small token of our appreciation, we are proud to call him our friend.

LTC Mike (Dogboy) Hall is retiring from the ANG in March , Dogboy, Rachel and Chris will be returning to their Home State of Virginia, Dogboy will be teaching ROTC, where he will have the opportunity to help shape the minds of our future Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines. We wish the Hall family the best Life has to offer- they will be missed.

ALR 136 membership voted to establish a “Active Duty Assistance Fund” to assist our active duty personnel for needs that may arise for the family when deployment may cause a disruption in pay for the Soldiers family. $500 was earmarked for this fund. ALR 136 will be able to work hand in hand with our Post / Department and other Kansas ALR Chapters. Funds will only be dispersed by the vote of at least 3 ALR 136 elected Officers.

Patriot Guard named “ Kansans of the Year” 2006, by the Topeka Journal. Congrats to YOU ALL for what you have done to support the Patriot Guard Mission (Honoring our KIAs)

ALR 136 member and Derby City Council member Jim (Dinger) Meidinger was very instrumental in the re- naming of 63rd South in Derby to “Patriot Ave” Thank Dinger for his efforts.

Feb. 3rd-4th – Mid-Winter Forum – Ark City-Post 18- opportunity for you to learn more about your Legion, S.A.L. & Aux programs. ALR Annual report will be given Sat. (National Commander will be present Sunday AM.) Plan to attend- be home in time for Super Bowl. HQ Motel 620-442-7700

Feb. 10th (5th District) Annual Chili Challenge – hosted by ALR 4 (Murdock & Main) 11 AM to 2 PM ..Trophies / prize money..ALR 136 member Doc Herndon has agreed to cook 14 qrts his famous Chili. Will have a cool display for 136..need at least 4 more to be on team..need ALL ALR 136 support to come and taste & vote. $10 taster bowls(13 & over) $5 (6-12) Free (5 & under).
