Veteran’s Coordinator (John Metz)

  • Next Banana Run will be Dec 16th.
  • Two chairs were purchased for the Winfield Veterans Home in conjunction with Post 10

  • Read thank you from Kevin Hamblin family for flag line at his funeral
  • Read thank you from Jaime and Rick Sexton for our help when she broke her leg during the Wichita Toy Run Rally

Commander’s (Rick Babinger) Corner:

  • Have $72,000.00 in the building fund now
  • Survey was sent out directed at members who don’t participate in Post activities
  • Dec 23rd Christmas pot luck dinner. Bring meat and anything else at 6PM. Gift exchange will be held. $5.00 max value.
  • New Years Eve party. Bring snacks.
  • Tables for patio were donated
  • Thank Phil Horner next time you see him. He donated a great projector that we can use for TV and movies

S.A.L Commander’s (Jerry Armstrong) Corner:

  • Reported that we participated in 5 Patriot Guard missions this year and that a total of 8 Kansas soldiers will were killed

    1. Wreaths across America at Winfield Veterans Cemetery scheduled for Dec 15th

  • New template for membership cards have not been received yet

New Business/Discussion Items:

  • Received 10 stars from McConnell. Committee formed to buy the toys: Ed Watson, Nancy Johnson,Monica Barshney, Lori Metz, and Deb Lynch.
  • Rick Johnson made a motion to donate $500.00 to the McConnell Spouses Club for Operation Holiday Surprise. Second by Andy Webb. Motion carried.
  • Nominations for 2013 ALR 136 Officers:

  • Reported that Jayme Sexton with Post90, Wellington, broke her leg when her bike went down during our ride to the Wichita Toy Run Rally

  • Briefed on the following events
  1. Wreaths across America at Winfield Veterans Cemetery scheduled for Dec 15th
  2. Sunday Nov 18th we will pick up the ditches along Patriot Guard Highway

Old Business:

  • Kevin Conover reported on the needs for the Winfield Veterans (furniture, recover pool table, etc). Post 10 will partner with us and has donated $500.00. Doug Lehman made a motion to add $235.00 in obligated monies to bring total up to $500.00. Mary Green seconded. Motion carried. Kevin will let us know what the committee decides on how to spend the designated $1000.00.
  • $416.00 check was sent for Warrior Transition Batalion to purchase 350 cans of cranberries

New Business/Discussion Items:

  • During the December mtg we will take nominations for ALR officers. Elections will be held at the January meeting. To be allowed into the January meeting, your ALR dues must be up to date. Description of all officer duties is listed on the web site (ALR136.com – click on heading “Officers”).
  • A new template for membership cards will be available in December. If you have renewed your membership, you will automatically be issued the new card when they become available.

  • Gave report on shirts: Short sleeve-$15.00, Long sleeve-$20.00, Henleys, sweatshirts, dress shirts-$30.00. Most any color available except just black or white for dress shirts. Contact Jerry or Connie to place order.

Commander’s (Rick Babinger) Corner:

  • Halloween Party Friday, Oct 26th with Matt Engles Band from 9 to midnight. Bring a snack dish and wear your costume
  • Nov 3rd, Chris Cakes of Wichita, pancake feed from 8:00 to 10:00 AM. All you can eat for $6.00. Open to the public. Bring your friends.
  • Nov 9th Trent Chriswell will be singing at the Post
  • Nov 11 Veterans Day ceremony after the ALR meeting. Auxiliary will furnish meal to veterans at no charge. There will also be an initiation of new Legion members and a flag a retirement.
  • Still need someone to step up and fill the Vice Commanders seat. They need to be willing to assume the Commanders job next year. Contact Rick for info: 316-796-4370

  • A lady from Kingman won half of the pig and our own Deb Lynch won the other half. 260 of the 300 tickets were sold

  • Thanked everyone who attended the Chili feed and pie auction. $762.00 was collected for the bldg fund.

Patriot Guard (Terry Houck) Corner:

  • Talked about his experience at the Moving Wall in Valley Center. He and Jerry Kirk escorted school children. Pat Thacker, Dennis Scuffham, Ron Herndon, Sam Langhofer, and he guarded the wall Friday night. Our member and Gold Star Mother was a keynote speaker at the opening ceremony on Saturday.
  • He will RC Wichita Toy Run on Nov 4th while Jarhead will be recuperating from surgery. We will fly all Marine flags and Jarhead will be there in spirit. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Director’s (Ron Vangas) Corner:

  • Briefed on the following events
  1. Wichita Toy run scheduled for Nov 4th in the Delano district. Will try to get a buffet breakfast prior to leaving for Wichita
  2. We have been asked by the Douglas Schools to participate again this year in their Veterans Day ceremony on Nov 12th
  3. Wreaths Across America is scheduled for Dec 15th at Winfield Veterans Cemetery.
  4. Dues are now being taken for 2013 (Legion, Aux, or SAL dues need to be up to date)
  5. Oct 27th Sumner County Toy Run (Belle Plaine to Wellington VFW)
  6. Sunday Nov 18th Patriot Guard Highway cleanup.

  • $500.00 was donated to Wreaths across America this year for the Winfield Veterans Cemetery. Ron Herndon made a motion to add $500.00 to obligated monies for next year. Jerry Ward seconded. Motion passed.
  • Jerry Ward made a motion to add $500.00 to obligated monies for next years Mulvane PD/EMS Toy Run. Rick Johnson seconded. Motion passed.
  • Thanksgiving dinner for the Warrior Transition Battallion at Fort Riley. Jarhead made a motion to buy needed items not exceed $500.00. Seconded by Denny McDonough. Motion carried.
  • Jarhead brought up doing something again for the Winfield Veterans Home for Christmas. Kevin Conover volunteered to chair a committee to see what is needed and coordinate with Post 10. Committee members: Ben Swisher, John Metz, Jerry Ward
  • For those that ordered Pop Woods memory bars, I now have them. They are $3.00 each.
  • Denny McDonough represented ALR 136 and the State of Kansas in a motorcycle competition in Indianapolis while on the Legacy Run. Congratulations to Denny for taking first place. He did ALR 136 and the State of Kansas proud. He presented the ALR with a plaque.

  • Halloween party to feature strobe horseshoes and glow in the dark volleyball
  • Need to get back the way we used to be with Friday night dinners (the food is now good again) and no more petty differences. We are all Brothers, Sisters and friends, and we need to act as such.

  • Gwen Johnson with Heartland Hospice. Talked about vets volunteering to help with fellow vets. If interested, call Gwen at 316-788-7626
  • Martha Smith, Quilts of Valor Kansas Regional Coordinator, gave info on what the QOV organization has done in the past year (755 quilts presented). Presented Darkhorse with a quilt titled “Freedom”, and Doc with a quilt titled “Twister”.

  • Discussed ABC rules for Saturday night. Need everyone to help police
  • Auction still scheduled for Sept 22nd. Desperately need quality items for Auction. Since this will be open to public, doesn’t need to be motorcycle related. This is your Post. We need your help to make it better.

S.A.L Commander’s (Jerry Armstrong) Corner:

  • Selling tickets for 2 pig halves. $10.00 each. Proceeds go to building fund
  • $100.00 donated to Tom Stoy fund to defray funeral expenses
  • $500.00 donated to Richard Carpenter to help defray medical expenses

At this time a motion was made by Rick Johnson and seconded by Pat Thacker to donate $500.00 from the riders to Richard Carpenter: Motion carried

  • Reported that Rick Babinger covered everything for the auction
  • Ladies Auxiliary will have pie auction and chili feed on Oct 13th

Patriot Guard (Terry Houck) Corner:

  • Thanked road guards and staging crew for what they did for Sgt Eric Mays Patriot Guard funeral
  • Found $26.00 at cemetery during funeral. No one claimed. Donated to Auxiliary
  • Read thank you from various people and law enforcement for how the Patriot Guard conducted the funeral escorts and service
  • Thanked Jerry Armstrong for donating casket flag box for Master Trooper funeral in Topeka

Director’s (Ron Vangas) Corner:

  • Briefed on the following events:
  1. Host Chapter 136 event went very well. Collected $315.00 from dunk tank. Will go to Winfield Veterans Home fund
  2. Next Host Chapter event scheduled for Sept 9yh at ALR 90, Wellington. Don’t know any details, but this is our stated meeting also.
  3. Old Settlers Day Parade Sat, 18 Aug. Bring candy to hand out. Buffet breakfast will be served starting at 8:00 AM
  4. Florence Labor Day Parade scheduled for Sept 3rd
  5. Sept 11th ALR 136 will set flags at VA for Patriot Day
  6. Mulvane Police and EMS Toys for Tots scheduled for Sept 15th
  7. Veterans appreciation set for Oct 6th ( Committee: Diana, Moe, Gary Donaldson,Gio, Rick & Nancy Johnson, Jerry and Connie Berry, Jo Ehrlich and Rob Brown) First meeting will be Wed the 22nd at 6:00 PM at the Post.
  8. Showed plague that we received from ALR 273 thanking us for the 25 flags that the Patriot Guard donated in our name
  9. Brought motorcycle kickstand pads to pass out that was donated by the Suicide Prevention coordinator at the VA Center Crisis Center. The pads have an 800 number to call for help
  10. Will see if ALR can do something to help celebrate the 100th birthday of WWII vet Don Revert. He is living at Villa Maria in Mulvane and is the oldest Kansan to go on the honor flight

  • Gio passed the hat for Tom Stoys wife. Collected $451.00.
  • Kevin Conover made motion to donate $500.00 to funeral home for Tom Stoy expenses, seconded by Darrell Hacker. Motion carried.
  • Pat Thacker made motion to add to the Star Tree fund to bring total to $500.00, seconded by Rick Johnson. Motion carried.
  • Jerry Kirk made motion to add $1000.00 to obligated money for next years scholarship fund, seconded by Rick Johnson. Motion carried.
  • Darrell Hacker said there are now 6 foster homes in Wichita area for veterans. Chester’s brother will be back in October. We should recognize him with a welcome home.
  • Jerry Allen made motion to donate $3000.00 to building fund. Seconded by Buz Nye. Discussion brought up fact that Riders have already donated over $10,000.00 to the fund. Voice vote too close for decision. Hand count indicated majority to be nays: Motion rejected.
  • Gunner invited ALR to Rocket Airfest in Argonia on Sept 2nd to watch his rocket launch
  • Dennis McDonough thanked everyone who bought 9/11 coins from him.

  • Suggested 10% of Poker Run net proceeds be donated to building fund. Chuck Barshney made motion to donate $5000.00. Seconded by Darrell Hacker. Motion passed.
  • Jerry Berry presented ALR 136 Life Membership criteria. Must be life member of Legion, SAL, or Auxiliary. Available 1 June 2012. Application form will be emailed to membership.
  • Scott Hansen will be selling American, POW and service flags at $10.00 each.

New Business/Discussion Items:

  • Deb Lynch wanted to acknowledge ALR136 members who attended the memorial for the Korean War veteran whose remains were recently returned
  • ALR is a program of the Legion. Therefore, when referring to the ALR, it is not the Post, but ALR Chapter 136.
  • Jarhead made motion to donate ALR portion of the 50/50 to the building fund until such time that the fund is no longer needed. Seconded by Sherry Evans. Motion passed.
  • Present Secretary, Terri Lehman, resigned her office. Nominations to fill the office until elections in January were opened to the membership. Rick Babinger nominated Connie Berry who accepted the nomination. There being no further nominations, the membership accepted the nomination by voice vote. Connie Berry was appointed to fill the position of Secretary until the next elections.
  • GIO suggested that since Scott Hanson will no longer be able to purchase flags for resale to members, that the ALR take over the responsibility. Jerry Kirk made a motion that the ALR purchase the flags and have a member administer the program. Seconded by Mary Green. Motion passed.

  • Need old motorcycle shirts for a quilt that will be made for the Poker Run Auction. Get to Terri Lehman.
  • Congratulated two members for getting OLD. Pat Thacker – 65, and Dwane Stewart – 66.
  • Greg Bauer donated the gun he won in the SAL drawing to the Poker Run auction.
  • Greg Bauer announced that the motorcycle safety course will be held March 31st from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Kansas Coliseum. Will send details by e-mail.

  • Opened up the floor for officer nominations. All unopposed positions went unchanged and were declared winners. Assistant Sgt at Arms ballot was cancelled. Darkhorse made a motion and was seconded by Little John to have Ditch leave the room and have a vote by show of hands. Ditch was declared the winner by show of hands.
