ALR 136 Newsletter – January 2015

Meeting called to order at 3:06PM: Total present: 49 members and one guest

Minutes: December minutes sent by e-mail and posted on front table. Minutes approved as posted.

Chaplain (Ron Herndon): Prayers asked for Rick Johnson, Richard Ballinger, Charlie Trapp, John DeArmond, Terry Knight, John Wise and family members of Dan Cane.

Treasurer (Vickie Kalous):

  • Treasurer read financial report. Accepted as read

Veteran’s Coordinator (Duane Kalous):

  • Certificate and $100 will be presented to the Mulvane Esprit de Corp on Thursday, January 15 at 10:00AM. Meet inside main High School entrance by 9:45AM.
  • Next Banana Run March 15, 2015

Legion Commander (John Metz):

  • Dues were due by December 31, 2014 - please pay if you have not.
  • National Vice-Commander will be at our Post on Wednesday, February 4 (12:45-2:45PM). Ladies Auxiliary will provide lunch.
  • Big Thank You to Diana Nelson with the Mexican Meal on January 10

Co-Director (Steve Coberley): Thank you letter from Kari for son’s Send Off

SAL Commander (Jerry Armstrong): Buz Nye was appointed new Vice-Commander and Ron Herndon as Chaplain

  • Walt Morris won the gun
  • SAL have paid Richard Ballinger’s dues for 2015
  • Made another payment toward the building loan

Ladies Auxiliary President (Jackie Johnson): In Jackie’s absence, Vickie Kalous reported:

  • Pie Auction is set for Saturday, January 31 along with the Hot Dog Bar
  • American Legion’s Birthday is March 15th. Our Post will have a Birthday Party on March 14

Fundraising Chairperson (Diana Nelson)

  • Thursday, January 15 – Bierocks – 5:00-7:00PM - $6.00 meal/$5.00 one bierock
  • Saturday, January 31 - Hot Dog Bar – 12:00-6:00PM - $5.00

Patriot Guard & Road Captain (Darkhorse): No Report

Old Business:

  • Doug gave a summary of the upcoming State Rally- June 12-14, updated membership on basic agenda, vendor fee will be $20.00
  • Have submitted t-shirt design to Department for approval. Kansas Star Casino is sponsoring t-shirts.
  • Casino Hampton Inn & Suites and Haysville-Sleep Inn & Suites have given us rate of $79.00 per night
  • Winfield Veteran Home Christmas – group consensus was to help out Douglass Nursing Home and local Veterans
  • Dennis Joynt reported on upcoming Kansas Legacy Run - July 16-19

Total of 1255 miles- Tentative Schedule - Post 256 (Wichita) to Olathe- Thursday

Olathe to Salina - Friday, Salina to Colby -Saturday, Colby to Great Bend on Sunday

Registration is $50.00 for rider, $25.00 for co-rider, whether you ride 1 or all 4 days

Must be an ALR member. Schedule is tentative, more information to be announced.

  • Friday, January 16 – 50th Anniversary of Piatt St Plane crash. Meet QT 626 W 21st N at 2:15PM and depart at 2:30PM
  • Put up flags at Post and VA Monday, January 19 - Martin Luther King Day
  • Put up flags at Post and VA Monday, February 16 - President’s Day
  • Mid-Winter Forum, Post 10, Winfield, February 6-8
