-The treasurer report was read. No corrections. Financial report stands.
Veteran’s Coordinator (Duane Kalous):
-It is time to decide what ALR 136 wants to provide along with the cookies for the Christmas Banana Run. Duane made a motion to price razors, deodorant, puzzle books and socks and report back next month at the ALR meeting. Mary seconded the motion. Motion passed.

Co-Director (Mary Green): 
-Quilts of Valor Foundation-Thank you from Ann Rehbein, Executive Director, thanking ALR 
  136 for the donation to the Quilts of Valor Foundation enabling 123,000 Quilts of Valor
   To be awarded by the end of August 2015.
-Thank you from the Family of Robert Davis for the escort of Bob to his place of rest.
-Thank you to the ALR 136 for the $100 donation toward the support of the Vet’s Rally.
-Thank you from the Jim Meridinger family for the flag line for Jim’s funeral.

Legion Commander (John Metz):
-John Metz reports that there will be a box placed by the front door of the Legion with a list
  of the items needed at the VA. Troy Deibert will pick the items up weekly and take them to
  ‘The Closet’ where items are supplied at no cost to the vets that are hospitalized.
-The loan for the remodel was paid off last month.
-The Legion dues are increasing. The Department is increasing their dues by $5.00 and
  National is increasing their dues by $5.00. The increase for National takes affect 1/1/16.   
  If dues are paid prior to the 1/1/16 effective date then the total increase will only be $5.00     
  For 2016 year.
SAL Commander (Jerry Armstrong):   
-Kids Christmas Party is December 12, 2015. An email will be sent to members when the
  date is set for the shopping  trip.

Ladies Auxiliary President (Jackie Johnson):
-Veteran’s Day is November 11, 2105. There will be a Flag Retirement on that day beginning
 at 5:30 PM. Immediately after that the Auxiliary will provide a brief program followed by   
 dinner.

Fundraising Chairperson (Diana Nelson):
-Bierocks will be served October 22, 2015.

Patriot Guard & Road Captain (Darkhorse):  
- The Prototype Appreciation Plaque was presented by Terry Houck. On behalf of the Patriot Guard organization the money that has been donated to that organization will be used to  
 pay for the labor and materials to make the plaque.
 Jerry Berry mentioned that Jeremy King with WATC is providing most of the
 labor.
-8 additional memorial bricks have been placed in front of the Legion.  Duane will
  investigate the potential of a company in the Wichita area that does brick engraving.
 

Unfinished Business:
-Toys for Tots update by Jerry Allen. Please note that the time for breakfast prior to
  staging, is 9:30 and not 9:00 as was indicated in the email. Other post have been invited to
  To ride with ALR 136.
-Jerry and Connie Berry reported that the cost of the T-shirts is dependent upon the
  Lettering. At this time the total cost will be around $20.75 and with sales tax will be       $22.00. Jerry emailed Jimmy Foster, adjutant at National for permission to use the
  Emblem.
-Operation Surprise on September 19th at 9AM was very successful. However the best time
   To find the lucky shoppers begins at 10:30 AM lasting until early afternoon. The next
  date for Operation Surprise will be emailed once it is determined. Dennis McDonough made  
  a motion to keep Operation Surprise on the Saturday after payday and change the time
  to 10:30 AM. Sue Lee seconded the motion. Motion passed. Next Date 21Nov15 @ 1030 meet front gate 1000AM.
  

New Business/Reminders:
-Douglass Veteran’s Day Celebration, Mike Vore will contact the school to see how
 ALR 136 can participate and will send out the flyer.
-As last year ALR 136 will assist McConnell Air force Base with their Thanksgiving Baskets.
  Rob Brown will see how we can assist and report at next meeting. It was mentioned that
  ALR 136 donated $250.00 to Family Services Thanksgiving Baskets last year.
-Doug Lehman made a motion that ALR 136 donate $500 to Wreaths Across America Winfield. Prue Norman seconded the motion. Motion passed.
-Greg Bower made a motion that ALR 136 purchase Rick Johnson’s memorial brick. Dennis
  McDonough seconded the motion. Motion passed.
-Vickie Kalous, treasurer, reports that it is now time to be paying ALR dues-she will accept payment as soon as the 2016 membership cards arrive.
-Rick Johnson memorial patches are available. Cost is $3.50 per patch.
-Mike Vore requested volunteers to put up and take down the flags at the post on Columbus
  Day.

-50/50 – Collected $84.00 with $41.00 going to the Operation Surprise.  Sue Lee won the other $41.00. Congratulations Sue!

Co-Director (Mary Green): 
-Thank you from Kurt Hartman to Patriot Guard and American legion Riders for flag line
-Thank you from Jeannie and Tessa for assistance with motorcycle
-Certificate of Appreciation form Don Behrens for hosting the Kansas State Rally 2015
-John Culver who went to bring the Jeannie and Tessa’s trike from Eureka, KS gave the $126.00 that was collected and given to him to cover expenses; to a needy veteran

Legion Commander (John Metz):  
-Old Settler’s Weekend will be the next fundraiser for the Legion-this will require volunteers
  next meeting will be 7/23/15. Old Settler’s weekend is August 14-16th, 2015.
- A D-day veteran lives in Mulvane, Wally Smith, who will be honored at the Shrimp and Sausage meal 7/17/15.
-Legion is selling raffle tickets for $5.00 for a chance to win $500.00Gift Card to Stroot Locker Located in Mulvane. The Winner of the raffle ticket will be announced at 9 PM during the concert by  the band Haywired.
-The post will have a band, Haywired, that will play from 8 PM to midnight at the legion. Entry fee $5.00 per person.
-The Legion donated $1500 to Rick and Nancy Johnson for sewer repair.

SAL Commander (Jerry Armstrong):   
-SAL will be cooking brats and hamburgers for donation and hosting a Horse Shoe Tournament the Saturday, August 15th during Old Settler’s Day.
-Tickets available for the gun raffle, an AR 15-only 150 tickets, $10 each
-SAL donated $1000 to Rick and Nancy Johnson for sewer repair

Ladies Auxiliary President (Jackie Johnson):
-There will be a fundraiser breakfast that includes cinnamon rolls, hash browns, and omelets  made to order with coffee or juice form 8 AM to 10 AM for $5.00
-Auxiliary donated $500 to Rick and Nancy for sewer repair


Fundraising Chairperson (Diana Nelson):
-There will be a shrimp and Sausage boil Friday, July 23rd, 2015 from 5PM to 6:60 PM for $8.00 per plate. There will be 100 portions available so “first come first serve”.

Unfinished Business:
- Director, Mike Vore, on Doug Lehman’s behalf, thanked numerous individuals for their assistance with a very successful ALR State Rally. Appreciation was voiced to all members who participated in making this a successful weekend. Members also voiced their appreciation to Doug Lehman for his efforts for planning and organizing the weekend.
-Deb Herndon, Historian, provided a display of some of the pictures taken during the State Rally Weekend.
-Nation of Patriots update: Sue and Larry Lee thanked everyone for their assistance. They thanked Doug Lehman for receiving the flag and Rick Babinger for handing it off. Participants from Joplin, mentioned that this was one of the best ever programs and all riders were treated with great hospitality.
-Dennis McDonough provided a brief itinerary of the Kansas Legacy Run Route that will take place
  July 16-19, 2015.
James Finneran requested at least 20 riders, as this is the 20th year of the Law Camp. The Ride-In will be Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at 11:30 AM and the Ride-Out will be Friday, July 17th, 2015 at 12:15.  Ride-In meet at QT 71st and K15 10:00 KSU @ 10:15 or meet at the East entrance to Lake Afton on West on MacArthur Rd. Thursday night @ 6 pm there is a VIP BarBQ that everyone is invited to if you do either the Ride-In or Ride-Out.
-James Finneran will provide a Flag Etiquette Presentation at the Mulvane Library at 1:30 July 13th, 2015. Please attend if you can.
 
New Business/Reminders:
-Diana Nelson made a motion to have the ALR match the donation of $1500.00 that was voted on and passed by the AL for Rick and Nancy Johnson for sewer line repair. Doc Herndon  seconded the motion. Motion passed.
-Rick Babinger suggested that the ALR organize a thank you ride to the Mulvane and Derby Police Department in appreciation of what they do for us and provide a certificate of appreciation. George Behr made a motion that we plan an appreciation ride to the Mulvane and Derby Police Department to express appreciation. Phil Giovani seconded the motion. The motion passed. Rick Babinger and Terry Houck will get in touch with the Police Departments and see if this ride can be coordinated with a roll call or briefing to get the biggest number of officers. Deb Herndon will create a certificate.
-Jerry and Connie Berry will run a new shirt order. Looking at UnderArmour style shirts.
-Operation Surprise is having some trouble finding the lower ranking airmen and families-be prepared to discuss a new way of reaching out to these folks at the next meeting.

-50/50 – Collected $ 56.00 with $28.00 going to the Operation Surprise.  Barb Giovani won the other $28.00 which she donated to the Operation Surprise. Thank you Barb Giovani!

  • Vickie needs to order more patches and requested a motion. Ron Herndon made a motion to allow the $600 to $700 that is required to purchase the needed patches. Rob Brown seconded the motion. The motion passed.

Legion Commander (John Metz):

  • Thanks for assisting with the cleaning of the Legion in preparation of the ALR Rally

  • The Auxiliary will be providing finger food for Friday evening for the ALR State Rally.

  • There will be a Father’s Day Dinner on June 21, 2015 and there are only 30 meals available so put in your reservation soon.

Unfinished Business:

  • Doug Lehman provided ALR State Rally update:
    • Membership cards to the AUX, SAL and AL will be checked as well as ALR membership cards for admission to the ALR State Rally
    • Must wear Legion Rider vest
    • Wear your blue ALR Rally shirts Saturday
    • Only ALR members may sign up to play horse shoes
    • Phil Horner revamped the horse shoe pits-Thank you
    • Bob McFadden put up the lights around the parking area-Thank you
    • Reported on silent auction list and the titles of each group of items
    • There will be a sign-up list for Sunday morning breakfast
    • State Rally Expense was reviewed
    • The large banners and the magnetic signs for the van were donated by Mike Tanner of
    • Wayman Oil Company-Thank you.
    • E-Bay ride was outlined and reviewed
    • Those that provided contributions in any will be recognized with a thank you letter and certificate of appreciation
  • Nation of Patriots update by Sue and Larry Lee; A single flag is transported across the 48 states beginning in Wisconsin and ending in Wisconsin.
    • Post 136 will be one of the overnight stops. 7/10/15 the flag will be received around 6 PM at Post 136 and will leave 7/11/15 escorted by a group of riders from Post 136.
    • Expect 25 to 30 non-members to participate in the small ceremony associated with the transfer of flag from the arriving group of riders to Post 136. A light meal will be provided for the riders and other participants. There will be speakers and a band associated with the ceremony. Sue and Larry Lee are organizing the ceremony. This will be a non-alcohol event.
    • James Finneran volunteered to receive the flag.
  • Monika Barshney is painting the curb stops yellow and requires additional paint to finish the project. Deb Herndon made the motion to purchase the additional paint. Mary Green seconded the motion. The motion passed.
  • Chuck Vrana brought several communication systems for trial at the ALR State Rally. He described their use and how they can be used to simplify communications at larger events. If they are successful in assisting with communication he would sell the units to ALR at the same cost of his purchase
  • The ALR garage sale made $250.00. Future ALR events will require more participation from additional members

New Business/Reminders:

  • Patriot Guard Highway Clean Up has been postponed due to the water standing in the ditch and the un-mowed grass. It will be rescheduled. Ron Vangas will take the lead.
  • Deb Herndon volunteered to complete the required forms for a proposed visit by William Shatner as he visits/tours American Legion posts along a route from Chicago, Ill to Los Angeles, California.
  • Mulvane July 4th Parade-Mike Vore is still getting information and will let the Post know more about the parade.
  • 50/50 – Collected $111, $55.50 going to the Operation Surprise. John Wise won the other $55.50 which he donated to the Operation Surprise. Thank you John Wise!

AL Post 136 Newsletter – May 2015

  • Reported on Mulvane Grade School Thank You Program for decorating the bags for the Bananna Run. There was a good response from the students and they enjoyed the program
  • The appreciation pencils were given to the teacher to pass out to the students.
  • Deb Herndon was thanked for making the certificates.

Legion Commander (John Metz):

  • The Garage sale made $518. This will be applied toward the loan payment on the remodel.
  • The Legion needs 10-12 riders to participate in the Memorial Day Ceremony flag line

Co-Director (Mary Green):

  • Munson Primary School sent letters written by the students and pictures were passed around for all to see.

SAL Commander (Jerry Armstrong):

  • SAL will be cooking during the afternoon of the ALR Rally.
  • Donating a $100 gift card to Cabela’s for the silent auction

Unfinished Business:

  • Doug Lehman reported on the current ALR State Rally. 121 pre-registered. Need silent auction items. 6 vendors have registered. The van for transportation was donated by Rusty Eck Ford.
  • Kansas Legacy Run - July 16-19, 2015. No report.
  • ALR will have a garage sale on Saturday May 16, 2015 at Doug Lehman’s home. Still need someone to take the lead on this project. Also need more items..
  • If you are planning on going on the Ozawkie 3rd Annual Fun Ride May 9, 2015 contact Doug Lehman. KSU at 1100.

New Business/Reminders:

  • Saturday May 9, 2015 at 9 AM workers are requested to assist in uncovering the flag pole holes at the Mulvane Cemetery.
  • May 22, 2015 at 1730 workers are requested to decorate the graves at the Mulvane Cemetery.
  • Memorial Day, May 25, 2015, at 0530 the large flags will be put up at the Mulvane cemetery.
  • City of Mulvane has requested that Post 136 ALR Riders lead the July 4th Parade.
  • Deb Moore made a motion to participate in the parade. Sue Lee seconded the motion. The motion passed.
  • A presentation was provided about the Kansas Honor Flight Duck Deploy at the Riverfest. By adopting the ducks funds are raised to send Kansas veterans to visit their War Memorial in Washington DC.
  • Scruffy reported the ‘Law Camp’ is asking for riders for a Ride In at the start and finish of the camp July 14th and July 17th. No time frame yet.
  • Patriot Guard Highway Clean Up is scheduled for June 6, 2015 at 0830. Ron Vangas will  take the lead.
  • The presentation of the Scholarship to the winner of the Patriotic Essay Contest, Amber Watson, will be at the Douglass High School May 8, 2015 at 1330. Please attend if you can.
  • Nation of Patriots was presented by Sue and Larry Lee. A single flag visits all 40 continental states in 100 days and is accompanied by riders. Money is raised to support veterans and the money stays in the local area. The flag will be arriving from Missouri and will arrive in Kansas. The next day the flag will leave Kansas and proceed to Oklahoma. The receiving Unit provides the evening meal for the riders. The flag is due to arrive in Kansas July 10, 2015 and leave July 11, 2015. Riders meet the flag about 2 hours out and escort the flag to the receiving unit. The next day riders take the flag and are met by the next state’s riders.
  • Jerry Kirk made a motion to host the Nation of Patriots at ALR post 136. Deb Moore seconded the motion. Motion passed.
  • Operations Surprise- May 15, 2015. Meet at the Visitor Center at McConnell AFB at 1530.
  • Post clean-up June 7, 2015 at 1030. Come for breakfast at 9 AM and stay to help clean the Post prior to the ALR Rally.
  • Deb Herndon made a motion to the change the date of the ALR meeting to June 7, 2015. Doc Herndon seconded the motion. The motion passed.

  • The 5th district meeting is going to be in Eldorado, Kansas and the American legion is asking for delegates. If you are interested contact John Metz.
  • Bar stools will be here on Tuesday. Need 5-6 volunteers to unload and assemble the stools.
  • Old Settlers meeting is March 16. 2015. The date is August 14-16, 2015. A committee is being formed to decide if the Legion wants to continue to be involved
  • The American Legion will be electing new officer at the next meeting

  • Doug Lehman reported on the current State Rally Expenses. A sheet was passed around listing the specific expenses. Doug Lehman made a motion to allocate $2000.00 to cover the current State Rally expenses. Jerry Allen seconded the motion. Motion passed. State Rally dates are June 12- 14
  • State Rally Meeting Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 1800.
  • Kansas Legacy Run - July 16-19- no report given.
  • Riders in the Sky Patch for Richard Ballinger are available-contact Mike Vore
  • Discussed mailing membership ID cards. Rob Brown made a motion to mail membership ID Cards to those members who provide a self-addressed stamped envelope. Steve Coberley seconded the motion. Motion Passed
  • Monica Barshney will paint the stripes on the motorcycle pad with supplies provided by The American Legion Riders
  • ALR 136 Scholarship pkt will be provided to the officers. Application date is closed

New Business/Reminders:

  • Rick Babinger made a motion that all funds that are donated to the American Legion Riders without a specific designation to a specific fund; will be applied to a fund specifically obligated for the memorial dinners for deceased members of our American Legion. Buz Nye seconded the motion. Motion Passed.
  • Schedule was passed around for putting up flags at the Post-still need volunteers.
  • Doug Lehman discussed making a financial contribution to Rick and Nancy Johnson. At this time no contribution will be made as they have requested no financial assistance.
  • Discussion concerning membership for those past members who have had a gap in membership. Bi-laws reviewed. Tabled for future discussion.

­­Guest Presentation: Bryan “Boom” Page – Post 408

  • Bryan gave a report about an upcoming Suicide Prevention Class that is being held on May 2-3, 2015, only charge will be $40.00 to cover cost of materials- class is to train people to identify those at risk for suicide. One out of Five suicides are committed by Veterans. Bryan would like to get someone from each Post in the state to attend this training. Need to know by end of April so materials can be ordered.

Treasurer (Vickie Kalous):

Veteran’s Coordinator (Duane Kalous):

  • Working on “Appreciation Day” for Mulvane Grade School- as a Thank You for all the sacks they do for the Banana Runs.

Legion Commander (John Metz):

  • National Vice- Commander thanked our Post for the luncheon on February 4th and commented that we had best looking Post in the state.
  • Big Thank You to Diana Nelson for great Hot Dog Bar- January 31.

Co-Director (Mary Green): Thank you letter from Debbie Goodnight & donation for Richard Ballinger Memorial ride.

Thank you letter from Gary Hightower Family, for doing Flag line at their father’s service.

Ladies Auxiliary President (Jackie Johnson): In Jackie’s absence, Vickie Kalous reported:

  • American Legion’s Birthday is March 15th. Our Post will have a Birthday Party on March 14

Patriot Guard & Road Captain (Darkhorse): No Report

Old Business:

  • Doug advised that early registration is now available forms are here and being put online. Get registration in ASAP in order for us to order shirts and patches. State Rally dates are- June 12-14.
  • Deadline for ALR 136 Scholarship is March 1, 2015- so far no applications. Kansas Legacy Run - July 16-19- no report given.
  • Reminded membership – pay 2015 dues – still have 30 members not paid

New Business/Reminders:

  • Schedule was passed around for putting up flags at the Post- next date is Monday, February 16, 2015.
  • Doug Lehman presented plaques presented to our Post at Mid-Winter Forum for Legion Rider Scholarship Award and for the Legacy Run.
  • Doug Lehman presented all the 2014 Directors with engraved coffee mugs, and thanked them for their service.
  • Director Mike Vore presented Doug Lehman with Past Director award and thanked him for serving as our Director.
  • Riders in the Sky Patch for Richard Ballinger are available- contact Mike Vore

Motion was made by Jerry Kirk & 2nd by Steve Coberly to donate $50.00 towards Legion's consumable paper goods. Motion Carried

  • Van for Shuttle to hotels at State Rally is needed. Motion by Ben Roloff and 2nd by Steve Coberly for Post to spend up to $200.00 for van rental and fuel, if we cannot get the Van donated. Motion Carried.
  • Jim Finneran is asking for Legion Riders to do a ride to World of Treasure’s Museum

During the week of March 16-20- Museum is showcasing all Military, Police & Fire people and would like for the Riders to do a ride if possible.

  • Old Settler’s Day is August 14-16- need committee volunteers
  • Two-Wheel Tuesday – February 11th- Winfield Post for Wings- meet at our Post at 5:30PM- THAT IS WEDNESDAY THIS TIME
  • February 26th- Post136 for Bierocks-
  • March 3rd- Old Chicago – in Old Town, meet at 6:00 PM
  • March 17th- St Patrick’s Day- Post 136 for Corn Beef & Cabbage
  • 50/50 – Collected $101.00 –Buz Nye $50.50, $50.50 to ALR 136 Operation Surprise
